Bio

Julia Schnabel is Chair in Computational Imaging at the Division of Imaging Sciences and Biomedical Engineering, King’s College London, Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Medical Imaging at King’s College London and Imperial College London, and Visiting Professor in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford where she held her previous academic post until 2015. Julia received her MSc in Computer Science in 1993 from the Technical University of Berlin, and her PhD in Computer Science from University College London (University of London) in 1998, after which she held PostDoc positions at Utrecht University, King’s College London and University College London. She has also been Visiting Professor at Nagoya University in 2014. Julia’s research focuses on computational imaging solutions for cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and pre-mature birth, developing generic computational models for nonlinear image registration, multi-modality and molecular image analysis, to model complex patient motion and tumour characteristics. She has ~200 peer- reviewed publications in internationally leading journals and conferences, is Editorial Board Member of Medical Image Analysis, and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and IEEE Transaction on Biomedical Engineering. She is Director of the Medical Imaging Summer School (MISS) which explores medical imaging at the interface to computer vision and machine learning, and Programme Chair of the 20th International Conference on Medical Imaging Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) in 2018.
